Saltwater Fishing Rods
Selecting the Right Saltwater Fishing Rods
Picking the best saltwater fishing rod is
essential and largely depends on the type of fish you are trying to catch. A rod made to catch a catfish or perch
is a lot different for one that is made to catch tuna or snapper.
There are many saltwater rods that are marketed
as dual purpose rods, and these are good for some fishermen, especially the novice or people who only fish a few
times yearly. Those anglers who have more experience typically have a saltwater rod for each of the species they
want to catch. This is better than having only a single, dual purpose rod.
These rods have very sturdy handle and butt
sections. The larger the fish you want to catch; the heavier you want your rod to be. This is particularly true
when employing down riggers and trolling in a boat. Even though the rod should be strong and weighty, you also want
enough sensitivity to feel a bite.
Most rods are made from graphite, but lately
e-glass has become a popular option. These rods are more flexible, but don’t take away from the rod’s strength. The
rod’s handle is also of great importance. You want to be able to grip it comfortably.
The guides need to be on the rod’s center. They
are usually made from aluminum oxide or other rust proof materials. When a fish is hooked, the pressure of the
fish’s struggle will be on your guides so they will play a major role in making your big catch.
