St Croix Fishing Rods
If you are used to a shorter rod, the first time you
use the St. Croix Avid AVC70MF rod you may not like it. I didn’t; I felt the power was a bit light. As I kept
using it, I grew to like it so much that I have bought two more. In fact they have become my bait casting
rods of choice.

A Guide’s Review
I use the three I own for many types of
fishing. I rig one with a 12lb PLine with a jig head worm, the
second with a 14lb Suffix line with a weightless Senko, and the last on a 15lb PLine and a crank or spinner
bait.
Its featherweight tip permits superb casting of
worms and lures. The action is so light that you don’t have to worry about breaking line on hook sets or
pulling a plug out of the fish’s mouth. However, it has sufficient backbone to set your hook on worms,
spinner and crank baits. This rod can be cast all day without you becoming too tired.
The seven foot length enables you to take up the
line quickly when setting a hook. It also gives you great control which is imperative when you have a fish
moving towards you or you’re struggling with a big fish.
St. Croix makes quality rods; the Avid series is
their mid-range series. It holds up quite well under heavy use. In addition, St. Croix offers a super
warranty program.
I use a rod with more power for heavy fishing, but
this is my “go-to” rod for the majority of my bass fishing.
